Week 6 Picks and Last minute Fantasy Look…

Went 8-5 vs the spread in the NFL Week 5 last week with a good afternoon game let’s take a last minute look at today’s games:

Atlanta -9.5 vs Oakland

Atlanta at home vs a Raiders team struggling and then traveling cross country.  Take your pick as to the fantasy studs for Atlanta, Ryan, Jones, White or Gonzalez.  They’re all must starts this week in the ATL. Falcons 35 – 16

Baltimore -3.5 vs Dallas

I like Romo bouncing back this week to have a decent game at the Ravens, suspect pass defense, but Dallas on the road against a quality opponent…I don’t see the Cowboys covering.  I’ve said it before that I’m not a big Flacco guy and he proved why last week.  I don’t like him here, but Ray Rice is a must start, we just need the Ravens to not fall in love with the passing game and get Rice the 25+ carries he should get to control this game. Raven’s 27 – Dallas 20

Cincinnati -2.5 at Cleveland

Here’s thinking Cincy hit a speed bump last week vs Miami and have a nice bounce back game at the Brown’s expense.  Dalton is a good start vs a bad Brown’s defense and should hook up a couple times with stud AJ Green today.  I also like Richardson to put up decent numbers, as the Browns should put the ball in his hands 20+ times to control the clock and Weeden turnovers. Bengals 31 – Browns 17

St Louis  +5 at Miami

Look for the Rams to cover the spread, but I look for Miami to win the game outright in a match-up between two pleasantly surprising teams.  I like the Rams defense to put pressure on Tannehill, but don’t look for the Rams to move the ball non to easy against the Miami defense. Dolphins 16 – Rams 13

NY Jets – 3.5 vs Indianapolis

Believe it or not, I like Sanchez here at home.  Big win last week for the Colts who are on an emotional roller coaster right now and going on the road will be tough. Wayne having a huge season and should be a good start, but the Colts have to get others involved to keep this one close.  Jets had decent game in loss to the Texans last week, but this is a must win today. Jets 27 – Colts 20

Detroit +3.5 at Philadelphia

It looks like the Eagles will be in tight games all season.  I keep waiting for the Lions to play like I thought they were capable of playing this season, but the defense looks like they can’t step it up for the when the offense struggles.  I look for Vick to have a big game today and for Philly to win out right in another close battle. Philly 35 – Lions 32

Kansas City +4.5 at Tampa Bay

Take the Chiefs with the points.  Another game that looks to be close and I look for Tampa to win. but not cover.  Charles and Bowe should be solid fantasy starts as should Freeman and Doug Martin for Tampa.  Tampa 27 – KC 24

Buffalo +5 at Arizona

Arizona comes down to earth and Buffalo answers the gut check game.  Look for the Bills defense to go all out today vs a depleted and really not so good offense.  Buffalo wins this out right and going away. Buffalo 31 – Arizona 20

New England -3.5 at Seattle

I struggle going against Seattle at home , as their defense should make it difficult for the Patriots, but it’s tougher to pick against Brady.  I do like Lynch in this game as I like Gronkowski to get 2 in the endzone today.  New England 27 – Seattle 20

NY Giants +7 at San Fransisco

49ers to win game, but giving the NY Giants 7 is just too much.  SF in a close game that go down to the wire. SF 28 – NY Giants 27

Minnesota -E at Washington

Another surprise team is the Vikings and I look for them to win on the road.  RGIII to play, but I don’t see him being as willing to run.  Harvin has been great and here’s hoping Peterson gets in the endzone today. Vikings 20 – Redskins 17

Houston – 3.5 vs Green Bay

Houston stays unbeaten and the Packers are in some trouble.  Schaub is a must start today and I like Andre Johnson to have a big game.  I’d be skeptical with Rogers.  The Texans will be playing pass all day and coming after the Packers QB.

San Diego -1 vs Denver

Looking for a shoot out here as Denver tries to prove they can play on the road.  Demaryius Thomas is a beast in the making.  As Manning becomes more and more comfortable with him, look for both guys to put up good numbers.  Rivers will have to keep pace, making him also a good start today. Chargers 37 – Broncos 34

Where’s the money being placed:

Atlanta Falcons 75%
New England Patriots 75%
Cincinnati Bengals 69%
Denver Broncos 67%
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 61%
Minnesota Vikings 60%
Baltimore Ravens 59%
Arizona Cardinals 58%
New York Giants 56%
#10 231 Green Bay Packers 56%

NFL Week 5 picks and Some thoughts on Tonights Baseball Wildcard Games

First, I’ll take the Baltimore Orioles tonight over Texas Rangers.  Yu Darvish would seem to have the advantage on the mound vs Joe Saunders, but I like Saunders and this is new territory for Darvish.  I also like that the pressure is all on Texas.  They blew the division late and the O’s have just been playing steady baseball all year.

In the National league, I’m going with the Braves.  They’ve owned the Cardinals over the season 5-1 and Kris Medlen has been light’s out the second half of the year.  Kyle Lohse goes for the Cardinals.

Onto Week 5 of the NFL.  Congrat’s to the Rams for beating the Cardinals Thursday night and finally exposing the Arizona Offense for what it is…week! My picks of this weeks games:

Atlanta -3 at Washington

I like Atlanta to stay undefeated.  RGIII has preformed terrific in his rookie season, but Atlanta’s weapons are just too much.  Last weeks game was too close for the Falcons, but it is a wake up game for them…you’ve got to come to play every week in the NFL!  Atlanta 27 – 20.

Philadelphia +3 at Pittsburgh

Philly piling up the stats and last week even hung onto the football, but still needed a missed field goal to win it. Look for another close game from both teams. Pittsburgh 31 – 30.

Green Bay -7 at Indianapolis

It’s about time Green Bay beats somebody handily.  I think the Packers will get after Luck and make life tough on him this week.  The Colts are tough against the pass and Green Bay is without Jennings again, so it won’t be a blow out, but I expect the Packers to cover. Green Bay 31 – 16

NY Giants -9.5 vs Cleveland

The Giants rebound in a big way at home against a weaker opponent. Cleveland ranks near the bottom in pass defense and Manning will exploit the secondary.  Big fantasy day for Giants owners! New York 38 – 13

Tennessee +5.5 at Minnesota

Minnesota will win outright, but the game will be close.  Look for Hasselbeck to have a decent game and help keep Tennessee in it. Minnesota 24-21

Cincinnati-3 vs Miami

Cincinnati offense has more to offer then the past two offenses the Dolphins have faced (NYJets and Arizona).  Miami travelling back to back weeks will also help the Bengals get off to a fast start against a Miami pass defense that is less then spectacular. Cincy 30 – 20

Kansas City +6 vs Baltimore

I look for Kansas City to upset Baltimore at home this week and win the game outright.  Kansas City will control the game as they match up pretty well against the Ravens defense. KC 27 – 20.

Carolina -3 vs Seattle

Just don’t like Seattle traveling cross country and then keeping up with Cam Newton.  Good Seattle defense and Seattle should be able to run the ball on Carolina, but I look for Carolina to cover at home. Carolina 28 – 24.

Jacksonville +4.5 vs Chicago

Chicago coming off big win Monday night vs Dallas and then must travel on a short week?  It’s a tough task. On paper the Bears are the better team, but I see MJD getting 30 touches and Jacksonville covering at home in a close game. Chicago 17 – 16

New England -6.5 vs Denver

Denver just isn’t the same team on the road and New England figured something out last week, half through the 3rd quarter! Look for New England to score early and put Denver on their heals, making them 1 dimensional.  Denver will need to control the tympo with the run and if Willis McGahee gets 22+ carries, Denver will have a chance to keep it close. New England 35 – 27

San Francisco -9.5 vs Buffalo

Bills defense a huge disappointment.  There’s no imagination to defense coordinator, Dave Wannstedt, schemes and until they get a little creative, I don’t see them stopping anybody with a solid offense.  On the other side of the ball, the Bills offense line is a little banged up and the 49ers aren’t the team to be playing if your banged up.  Fitzpatrick protects the ball the Bills have a fighting chance, but I don’t see that happening against this defense at home.  San Francisco 27 – 16

New Orleans -3.5 vs San Diego

I see New Orleans getting a victory in the win column, but I wouldn’t put any money on it.  The Saints need to get out front early and put their foot to the peddle, which I see Drew Brees and company doing at home this week.  New Orleans 38 – 27

New York Jets +8 vs Houston

If Jets don’t put up a fight, their season may be heading south.  They’ll come out playing at home and keep it close, but I don’t see Houston losing.  Jets will cover, but not win, if Sanchez doesn’t give the J-E-T-S fan reason to chant Tebow’s name! Houston 20 – 17

Were is the money being played?

Chicago   Bears 85%
Houston Texans 82%
Baltimore   Ravens 81%
Green Bay Packers 80%
Atlanta   Falcons 77%
San   Francisco 49ers 73%
Cincinnati   Bengals 72%
Pittsburgh   Steelers 68%
Minnesota   Vikings 66%
New   Orleans Saints 65%

NFL Week 4 Picks and Thoughts

Ref’s are back to work, but that doesn’t make it any easier.  What teams are for real and what teams are fakes (or what teams benefited more from the bad calls by the replacement ref’s).  Further in the post is the top 10 wagging teams and finally the current spreads for this weeks games. So here it goes, picks vs the spread with predicted scores…

Sunday, September 30

 Buffalo +4 vs New England

I’ve gotta like the Bill’s at home and New England is struggling some, by their standards.  Keep an eye out if Gronkowski plays and if he does he is somewhat banged up.  He’s going to want to go being at home and all, but I think the Bill’s will be up for this one.  The money is all over the Patriot’s though as the line started at 5 and is currently at 3.5 and New England is number 2 (see chart below) on most picked to win. Bills 27 – 24

Detroit -5 vs Minnesota

People, including myself, were all over Detroit last week and they lost outright.  I think Detroit answers the call this week versus a surprising Minnesota team. Matt Stafford Detroit Lions  I look for Matthew Stafford to break out this week.  He looks to not be having any problems that caused him to miss the end of last weeks game vs the Titans (hip).  Minnesota has been tough against the pass this season, but I see this being a fairly high scoring game.  The line has gone from 5.5 to 4, so the money’s on Detroit again this week.  Lions 38 – 31

Atlanta -7 vs Carolina

Atlanta struggles some against the run, so Cam Newton will be a threat.  Atlanta has owned Carolina recently and Michael Turner has average over 100 yards rushing and Michael Turner Atlanta Falconsscored 11 touchdowns vs the Panthers the last 7 games they’ve met.  Atlanta coming home from the West coast worries me, but Atlanta is the better team and their at home. The line opened at 9 and is down to 7 showing the money is on Carolina.    Falcons 41 – 24

San Fransisco -4 at NY Jets

The 49ers are the third most wagered team this week.  The Jets are without Darrelle Rivas for the remainder of the year, the 49ers are coming off of a surprised lose and the Jets squeaked by a surprising Miami team last week.  The 49ers must travel cross country and that’s why the line is only 4.  I typically like home dogs, but think the Jets are in trouble here.  You heard it here first…the Jets need to win or you might see a team in trouble. 49ers 27 – 13

San Diego +1 at Kansas City

ChargersBig win last week for the Chiefs on the road, but see a let down this week.  The Chargers laid an egg last week vs the Falcons.  The Chargers match up well vs the Chiefs and will stop the run. Chargers 20 – 17

Houston -12 vs Tennessee

Houston is playing lights out right now and the Titans caught the Lions by surprise last week, but I don’t them sneaking up this week on the road against the Texans.  Texans big at home 45 – 17.

 St Louis +2.5 vs Seattle

Not sure why.  Seattle tough defense vs a Rams team that struggled last week.  It is yet again a home dog and I just like the Rams against a Seattle team that I’m not yet sold on.   Rams 23 – 21

Arizona -5.5 vs Miami

Can’t believe I’m saying this, as I had the Cardinals struggling big time this season, but Arizona Cardinalsthat defense is lights out.  Miami will struggle offensively.  The Dolphins will make Arizona work for their points, but the Cardinals defense will get turnovers to make the field short for their offense. Arizona 27 – 16

Denver -6.5 vs Oakland

Raiders surprise winners with comeback last week at home vs the Steelers and Broncos were somewhat disappointing at home against the Texans.  I see the Broncos rebounding and winning going away 31 – 17

Cincinnati -2.5 at Jacksonville

Tough pick here.  Jacksonville should have no problems running the ball, while the Bengals will pass the ball all over the field.  Tough going against Jacksonville at home, but if the Bengals can just contain MJD, they should out score the Jags.  Cincy 35 – 32

Green Bay -7.5 vs New Orleans

The Packers make a statement here.  The Saints are hurting, going up to Green Bay and Green Bay coming off the last second lose to Seattle Monday Night make this a bad spot for the Saints.  Green Bay 42 – 27Green Bay Packers Defense

 Tampa Bay -2.5 vs Washington

Like Tampa Bay’s defense, they’re at home and Washington is struggling some.  Tampa’s problem will be scoring points, but I see the defense giving them the short field to work with. Neither team defends the pass well, so one would expect a high scoring affair with the Bus winning at home 31 – 27

NY Giants +1.5 at Philadelphia

Philly hangs onto the ball they can beat anybody.  The problem they do not protect the ball.  A big fantasy day for players on both teams and the Giants win 37 – 34

 Monday Night

Dallas -3.5 vs Chicago

Dallas takes care of business at home vs the Bears, who are in danger of a small mutiny.  When things start going bad for this team, they get on one another and start pointing fingers.  I see Dallas pressuring Jay Cutler, and things going down hill from the there for the Bears.  Dallas 24 – 13

Week 4 NFL Picks (Thursday Night Game) and Some early Fantasy updates…

Tough week with picks last week as I’m assuming most had as I went 7-8-1, bring mt year total too 24-22-2.  Actually better then most that I’ve seen.  Now with the regular referee’s back, who knows what to expect.  I would think it will become somewhat easier to pick, but who knows who is for real and who are beneficiaries of poor refereeing.  OK here’s this weeks picks and a some fantasy news for Thursday Nights game between Baltimore and Cleveland.  I’ll start there:

Take Joe Flacco in a big way.  I watched Cleveland’s defense last week and they looked terrible at home.  Flacco has been a big fantasy hit and that should continue.  Ray Rice is always a start as should Torry Smith be.  As for Cleveland Trent Richardson should put up decent numbers as should Brandon WeedenBrandon WeedenThe Ravens defense is suspect to the pass and I think they’re going to dare Cleveland to pass,  So Weeden is a good pick this week.

Some people have asked for score predictions so I will include that in with the picks versus the spread.

Thursday Night:

Baltimore -12 vs Cleveland

Don’t see Cleveland staying in this game.  I do see the Ravens forcing the Brown’s to beat them through the air, so I do expect Cleveland to put points on the board, but the Raven’s offense should feast at home.  Baltimore 35 – Cleveland 20.

I will have the rest of this weeks picks on tomorrow’s picks…

NFL Week 3 Observations…Refs had another bad week via Twitter…and more…

Some observations from week 3 in the NFL:

1. Are you kidding me?  What was the ruling on the field?  One ref has it a touchdown and the other ref has it as an interception and a touchback.  The receiver having their hand on the ball does not indicate dual possession.  This wasn’t the only call in this game or any other.  The games are becoming hard to watch.  From bad calls to no-calls, to the fathom-calls.  These are those illegal contact down field were the defender hasn’t touched the receiver, but gets the flag.  I don’t think these ref’s know what an actual holding is.  This isn’t their fault…their in over their head.  This falls on the NFL getting a contract with the legit NFL Referee’s.  Are they perfect? NO.  There’s a human element, so there is no perfectly called game, but these games are being decided with multiple bad calls.  These calls are killing drives or keeping drives going where the defense has forced a change in possession. Some of the Best Tweets below:

Linda Cohn@lindacohn  In the battle of least liked commissioners by sports fans. Roger Goodell passed Gary Bettman tonight. #nfl #nhl

Sean Salisbury@SeanUnfiltered …We are all now dumber for having watched this. I award no points and may God have mercy on all the NFL’s soul. #NFL #EpicFail

Erik J.@All_AmERIKan Somewhere, Ed Hochuli puts down a dumbbell, kisses his bicep, and softly says “we’ll be back soon.” #NFL

Damien Woody@damienwoody Welp….our worst nightmare has been realized…..Green Bay robbed!!!!!!! #nfl

Luke Russert@LukeRussert People talk about #NFL vs the Refs Union…ya ya. Vegas is going to get involved now. A lot of POWERFUL people lost money on that.

Ben Francisco@bennyfresh_8 Oh boy #nfl officially a joke…

Frank Caliendo@FrankCaliendo Great game tonight. More importantly, I’m just glad the #ReplacementRefs had no impact on the game. #MNF #nfl @packers @seahawks #GBvsSEA

Reggie Bush@reggie_bush These refs gotta go I’m sorry

David Nelson@DavidNelson86 So much to say.. So little room in the pocketbook. #Goodnight

DeAngelo Williams@DeAngeloRB Well we knew this was bound to happen but on Monday night football? Come on the replacement zebras aren’t fit for this zoo! Lol

2.  Until this referring thing gets straightened out, the upsets will continue.  This has given the old “on any given Sunday…” bit a new meaning.  Not sure if  Vegas is on-board with this or not, but the calls must be having an effect on the betting lines.

3. Love the story of NY Giants running back Andre Brown. Brown was drafted in 2009 by the NY Giants (suffered season ending injury), but has also played for the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. Needless to say, he’s jumped around a lot.  Now that he’s producing, here’s hoping he gets plenty of playing time. Ahmad Bradshaw is scheduled to return this week and will be the starter.

4. Are the New England Patriots struggles a sign that the Patriot armor is cracked?  They haven’t looked as dominate this season (granted losing to the Ravens isn’t considered being week and the Cardinals are the surprise team of 2012) and neither side of the ball has looked their typical selves.  Now it’s early and the Brady/Welker tandem looked to have gotten reacquainted last week, but teams don’t look to be intimidated this season.  Look for them to get it together as the season moves forward, but something seems to be missing.

5.  The same goes for the Packers.  They are 1 dimensional, which is nothing new, and teams seemed to have figured them out.  The Seahawks sacked Aaron Rogers 8 times Monday night without a lot of stunting and blitzing.  Will the Packers rebound?

Last minute NFL Fantasy advice for Week 3

Its week 3 in the NFL and there a more then just a few surprises, both good and bad.  They say it takes Vegas 4 weeks to get things right with each NFL season to see who the surprise teams will be and in fantasy football this is the time to see who to unload and who to go after.

As stated in earlier posts, I’m not a big fan of Matt Cassel, but his fantasy numbers have been great this year, mostly because of his ability to produce in garbage time.  Well this week the Chiefs play the Saints in what is an early must win for both teams.  The loser goes on to 0-3 and with the Saints upcoming schedule it becomes that much more important (Packers and Chargers before their bye week).  This coupled with both teams ranked in the lower half of the league in passing defense (Chiefs 17 and Saints 25) makes this a game full of must starts.Saints Helmet  Drew Brees is obvious week in and week out start, but Matt Cassel would also be a good start this week.  Darren Sproles in PPR leagues as well as Jim Graham and look to the Saints wideouts as well.  Along with Cassel, Dwayne Bowe is also a good start this week.

Dwayne Bowe KC Chiefs

Ryan Fitzpatrick actually would be a start if your desperate at the quarterback position and Stevie Johnson is a good start against a vulnerable Brown’s secondary that is banged up and missing some key personnel.  I’d wait to see what Brandon Weeden does this week against the Bill’s pass rush as the Bills will look to take away Weeden’s dump off pass to his backs that he utilized greatly versus the Bengals. Trent Richardson Trent Richardson Cleveland Brownsshould get a look for the Brown’s as the Bill’s defense hasn’t been exactly stout against the rush, giving up and average of 4.5 yards per rush and Weeden likes to dump it off to him in the passing game.  With that said the Bill’s have only given up 1 rushing TD this season.

I like the Jets defense against the Dolphins in Miami.  Now Miami and the Jets typically have good games in Miami and the Jets must travel into the Miami heat, but I see the Jets defense rebounding this week against a rookie QB,  Ryan Tannehill, and I don’t see them letting Reggie Bush have any where near the day he had against the Raiders. Not sure which Sanchez shows up this week as the Steelers made him look as bad as he looked good versus the Bills in week 1.  A bad Sanchez spells poor fantasy points for the Jets offense.

Bears defense at home is a nice pick as they should be able to handle the Rams at home.  Don’t get to excited this week about Danny Amendola, but I like this guy and with Sam Bradford throwing the football to him he’s going to get his points.  I like the Rams under Jeff Fisher to keep things close and interesting against the Bears.  Jay Cutler will get his connections this week with Brandon Marshall.  With Matt Forte out, Michael Bush would be the start here at running back.

Another must start is Matthew Stafford against the Titans defense that has given up the Matt Stafford Detroit Lionshighest completion pct to opposing QB’s and given up the second must Touchdowns.  This spells a huge game for Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Tightend Brandon Pettigrew.

Another big defense start goes to the Eagles. Take the Eagles defense versus a very week Arizona defense. Sticking with the Eagles they are amassing big offense numbers, including turnovers, so look to start Vick, LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson (who’s probable for the game) and TE Brent Celek.

Houston’s defense is good, but I think the numbers will be adjusted some this week as I look for Peyton Manning to rebound by making better decisions and get the ball to his wide receivers more.  So look for Peyton Manning to have a decent game and more importantly for fantasy players, look to Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas to have good fantasy days at home versus the Texans.  I look for Matt Schaub and company to struggle some against the Broncos defense that I thought was impressive in their loss to the Falcons last week.  They kept the game closer then it should’ve been for all the good field position the Falcons defense gave them.

Look for the Falcons to go out to San Diego and make a statement on the road.  Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez are all must starts.  Atlanta coming Julio Jones Atlanta Falconsoff a Monday Night win and then must fly to the west coast to play at San Diego.  This makes it a statement game for them, showing that they are a team to beat in the NFC.

That’s our thoughts on this weeks fantasy advice.  Let us know what you think or how your team did!

NFL Week 3 Picks vs the Spread…

I had a decent week in week 2 going 9-6-1 (17-14-1 for the season), with Tampa Bay being the push at 7 pts.  Proud that I had the Dolphins and the Rams getting points and picked them to win straight up.  On the flip side, what happened to the Patriots (or should I ask “What’s going on with the Arizona Cardinals?”)?  Also , had Philly beating the Ravens by more then 3.5, but turnovers kept in closer then that with Philly winning by 1.  My picks for week 3 are below and the Vegas spreads as of today are at the bottom of this post. As an added bonus I found where people are placing their money at Thespread.com at placed that at the end of my picks…(1 Football tough call – 5 Footballs lock pick)

Thursday Night:

Giants -1 at Carolina

Dangerous game to pick.  I see the NY Giants coming together last week and stepping it up after last weeks come from behind win and the fact that they are short handed.  On the other side of the coin is a Panther team that can exploit the injury riddled Giants defense.  I see that NY Giant defense line getting after the Panthers and the Giants plying ball control to keep Cam Newton off the field. 2 Footballs

Tampa Bay +7 at Dallas

Another tough pick.  Both teams coming off tough loses. I like Dallas, but they looked terrible against Seattle and 7 points might be too much. Tampa Bay goes on the road the second week in a row, always tough to do. Plus, losing the big lead in a game is difficult to overcome for a young team. 1 Football

Rams +9 at Chicago

Just too many points to give to a much improved Rams team.  The Bears should win the game, but 9 points is a lot to give.  Take the Rams with the points. 4 Footballs

49ers – 7 at Minnesota

The 49ers top the power ranking and Harbough will keep them focused against a lesser team in Minnesota.  This is the play this week, won’t be close. 5 Footballs

Detroit -3 at Tennessee

Another game were I like the road dog a lot.  Perfect place for Detroit to put together a complete game.  I don’t see Tennessee being in this game and the 3 isn’t enough. 4 Footballs

Cincy +4 at Washington

I like Cincy and that’s saying a lot as I’ve never been much of a Marvin Lewis guy, but I think Cincy will play ball control to the injury plagued Washington Defense.  I like Cincy out right in this one as well. 4 Footballs

Kansas City +9 at New Orleans

Tough pick as KC looks terrible.  The Saints also looking bad, but would like to believe their the more talented team.  The Saints defense will keep opponents in the game though and 9 is too many points.  Saints win, but don’t cover. 3 Footballs

NY Jets -3 at Miami

I’ll take another road dog here.  Which Jets team shows up???? I think the Jets will rebound versus the Dolphins.  The Jets defense will dominate and keep this a low scoring affair. 3 Footballs

Bills -3 at Cleveland

Tough taking the Bills on the road as a favorite and the Browns may be better then I’m giving them credit, but Buffalo defense takes care of business here vs the young Cleveland backfield.  Take the Bills to cover. 2 Footballs

Colts -3 vs Jacksonville

Don’t like either team here, so we’ll go with the home team in what should be a close game.  Wouldn’t be surprised if Jacksonville wins straight up, but I believe the home field will be enough to cover. 1 Football

Eagles -4 at Arizona

OK, Philly wins by more then a point.  Arizona seems to be doing it with mirrors.  Their defense is winning games and the offense is avoiding shooting itself in the foot.  Eagles take care of the ball the win going away here. 4 Footballs

Atlanta +3 at San Diego

Falcons just a better team and getting points is a bonus.  Atlanta wins straight up, they’re not going to stumble here vs a Norv Turner team. Second lock of the weekend. 5 Footballs

Denver +1 vs Houston

Like Denver at home as Manning returns to being the real Peyton Manning.  I like this Texans team, but I really like the Bronco defense.  The Monday night game should’ve been a lot worse if it weren’t for the Bronc defense stepping it up.  Take the Broncos getting the point at home. 4 Footballs

Steelers -4.5 at the Raiders

This will be a telling game for the Steelers and I believe they step up on the road to beat the Raiders.  Not sure were I stand with this Raider team, losing to Miami on the road I picked, but losing as badly as they did not seen. 3 Footballs

Patriots +3 at Baltimore

Patriots losing at home to the Cardinals last week shows a crack in the Patriot Armor. I’m just not ready to give them points in any game.  New England will slow Rice down and force Flacco to beat. Don’t see Flacco answering that challenge.  Patriots rebound and win straight up.

Monday Night

Green Bay – 3.5 at Seattle

Another road dog that has something to prove.  Green Bay straightens things out this week at Seattle.  Not a bad Seattle team, but I think the Packers flex a little here offensively and cover on the road. 3 Footballs

As you see I also leaned most games to where the money is being laid. Let me know what you think and enjoy tonight’s game!

5 Observations of the 2012 NFL Season…Rams, Cardinals better then we thought!! Bears in trouble in the locker room?

Some observations after the second week in the NFL:

1. It’s obvious that the St Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals are off to much better starts then I, or most people, would have thought.  Not just the win/loss records, but the way they’re playing.  The Rams are 1-1 after a close loss at Detroit in week 1 then the win against the upstart Redskins.  I don’t believe the Redskins aren’t more then a .500 team right now and the Saints look worse then we thought without Sean Payton, but I should know better then to underestimate Jeff FisherDanny AmendolaOne of the best out there.  The Rams will continue to improve.  Pick up Danny Amendola if he’s still out there in your fantasy leagues! The Cardinals on the other hand are playing lights out defense.  They won at home verse a Seahawks team that totally dominated a sleep walking Dallas Cowboy team this past week, but to beat the Patriots in their home opener (1st home loss in 11 years) is impressive.

2. I’m not a big backer of rookie QB’s for the simple reason NFL coaches are typically way ahead of the curve and take advantage of the rookie QB’s with their disguised defenses.  RGIII and Andrew Luck look like there going to be good ones (not that I’m anointing them the next great QB class as some others already are). Russell Wilson impressed as did Brandon Weeden in Cleveland’s second game.

3. The Bear’s are on the verge of imploding.  In a recent article by Bear’s beat writer Brad Biggs, he writes in a column for National Football Post, “First, former Chicago Bears captain Adewale Ogunleye stepped out and criticized Jay Cutler for his boorish behavior Thursday night in a 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Cutler was sacked seven times, the second-highest total in his career, and threw four interceptions as the Bears were trampled by their NFC North rivals. NFL Network cameras captured Cutler yelling at teammates multiples times and at one point, as offensive players were leaving the field, Cutler bumped left tackle J’Marcus Webb.

Now, cornerback D.J. Moore, who went to Vanderbilt like…” (more)

Jay CutlerCutler’s worn out his welcome before.  I’ve never been a huge, more for personal reasons and not his talent, but he seems to put himself at a level of competency above his teammates.  He needs to win first to be able to get away with is on the field scoldings, not that some aren’t warranted.

4. The 49ers sit on top of the Power rankings and deservingly so. They soundly beat two teams that are in the top of the NFC if not the NFL in Green Bay and Detroit.  They play together as a team and all seem to be focused on the task at hand.  It’s a long season and staying focused if tough over the long haul, but this team seems to have the right make-up to do just that.

5. This season has very few sure bets.  More then most season’s this one is starting out to be the ultimate “..on any given Sunday, anybody can beat…” season.  Teams have DrDr Jekyll Mr Hyde Jekyll and Mr Hyde scenario’s from one week to the next.  Look at  Dallas, Seattle, Buffalo, NYJets, New England and Miami. Picking winners against the spread is one thing, but early this year has been difficult picking them straight up.

Those are 5 early observations and I’m sure there be 5 different ones in the next 2 weeks!!

NFL Fantasy Friday for week 2

Here’s this weeks best and worst fantasy match-ups coming in Week 2 of the NFL season.  Can’t put too much stock in week 1, but we’ll use it for a barometer of things we anticipated going into the season.

Let’s start off with a week 1 stand out in Joe Flacco.  Don’t like his match-up this week vs the Eagles at home. They were a top 10 passing defense in 2011 and made a poor Brown’s team look like they’d struggle to score against Savannah State.  I know the score was close and Vick Struggled throwing 4 int’s, but on the defense side of the ball Philly is tough. I do like Ray RiceRay Rice as I believe the Raven’s will have modest success running the football. I also think LeSean McCoy is a solid pick vs the Ravens.  Baltimore is a middle of the road run defense and BenJarvus Green-Ellis had a solid evening Monday vs the Ravens.

I like Tampa Bay to cover in their game vs the NY Giants and quite possibly upset them at home.  Look for Doug Martin to have a big game, he is a great start for fantasy players Doug Martinand I look for Josh Freeman to bounce back.  The Giants defense struggled at times last season vs the pass and wasn’t great against the run either.  They’re pretty banged up on the defense side of the ball.  The Giants offense will also struggle against a solid Tampa defense, getting the Tampa Bay offense plenty of offensive plays.

Carolina defense goes up against the Saints defense and the Panthers have a great match-up against the Saints defense.  A nice fantasy match-up.  Carolina did a great job vs the Tampa Bay passing game, but not so sure they’ll be able to repeat that performance vs Drew Brees.  Look for this to be a high scoring affair and for both offensive units to have banner fantasy points. Play Bree’s, Sproles, Colston, Graham, and Moore for the Saints and Newton, Smith, and Williams for the Panthers.

It’s a no brainer to start most of the name Texans Texansweek in and week out and this week vs Jacksonville who the Texans always play well against.  Foster to have a big day as well as Schaub and Johnson. Jones-drew would be the only Jaguar worth starting this week.

Tom Brady is a great start for big numbers at home vs Arizona.  Don’t see Kevin Kolb having much success on the road, which again translates into more possessions for the Patriots. So, start any New England offense receiver/TE (which is a good idea each week) and Stevan Ridley looks to an answer at the running back position.

Chris Johnson was had a brutal day vs the Patriots last week and should rebound this week against the Chargers, but it might be more in the passing game.  Not sure if Locker is out, but I would guess Hasselbeck will get the start and this should help Johnson’s value some. I also like Philip Rivers and if Matthews plays, might be worth looking at vs the Titans run defense.Philip Rivers

Gotta admit liked what the Jets did with their passing game last week vs the Bills and Manning had success vs the Steelers defense Sunday Night. Sparano might have been the best off season acquisition this past year.  The quick passes and the added talent of rookie Stephen Hill looks to be a winner for the Jets and fantasy owners.  If Hill is still available grab him. If Big Ben gets enough time to pass the ball I always like both receivers in Brown and Wallace.  I know vs the Jets defense, but what else do the Steelers have on offense?

I like Romo and the Cowboy’s defense vs the Seahawks.  A Peterson, Ponder and Harvin (Harvin a lot) vs the Colts and for some reason the Rams defense vs RGIII and the Redskins.

That’s a short list and like always we welcome your comments and like to know who you think is a good fantasy play each week.
